New Couch and Re-done Ottoman

It's been a while now since we convinced ourselves we needed a new couch and got one made, so i thought i best blog about it.

I loved my retro couch to pieces, but when your heavily pregnant and looking toward a future of being a couch bound stay at home cow then priorities change. The retro couch was particularly uncomfy, and our new corner couch... A.MA.ZING!

You like? Yes, Yes you do...
What's that beautiful ottoman/coffee tabley business in the middle?

WELL, good story... it didn't come with the couch.... it came from a run down second hand store which may as well have been free in its original life as it looked like this:

So i stripped its horrid 70's clothes off

And made a new upholstered cover for it from the same material we got the couch made in.

I then fossicked in my collection of wood all stored for a rainy day. I had a stash of walnut perfect for a nice solid wood inset table top to replace the horrid veneered original pictured above. So off Gaz went to work with the wood to convince some poor work mate to machine it up and laminate it ready for our ottoman. He did an awesome job and good old mates rates only cost $20! Gaz then spray finished it with a million coats of marine grade matt poly which look awesome and will last forever!

So here she is, think we did a good job for $60!

Deck Furniture

The Ramfins have done it again. That is Gareth Ramson and Dave FInley in their 1 day building episode 'outdoor furniture for both ours and the Finleys decks'. 2 sets of furniture in 8 hours... not a bad effort!

I love it.. under $300 and completes the deck! It got its first work out last weekend at our baby party and worked a treat!

Very happy Jute - Thanks Ramfins!

Before & After

I'm right into reviving things at the moment. Resisting the urge to buy new and modernising what we already have.

Here is a shelf purchased from the Warehouse for 10 bucks. Crappy materials, but totally purposeful and i really couldn't bare to have them any longer. But what do you do?

1) Throw them out? How wasteful! They are still in a great practical state.
2) Put them on trademe? Nobody would bother with them as they are so cheap to buy new in the first place.

or
3) Revive them. Makes the most sense of all.

Here they are with a new patterned back face. So simple, just laminated a feature pattern to the existing hardboard. And to top it off - i painted an otherwise dated forest green table lamp with a new fresh shade of blue to match.
